A.J. Styles is the current IWGP Champion. He won the title in May of 2014 and has been having incredible matches with everyone he has faced. He recently competed at an ROH Pay-Per-View and had a stellar match with "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce. (Read the article at Slam Wrestling here). The praise for that match went to Styles and how great he made Pearce look. It reminded me of the old NWA days.

In the 1970's and 1980's the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) World Champion would travel to different places around the world defending the world title. Men like Dusty Rhodes, Terry Funk, Harley Race, and Ric Flair would go to a territory and defend against a top challenger . Their matches were so excellent that those men became legends for how great they were and how they worked with their opponents

RIC FLAIR AS NWA CHAMPION

Wrestling has changed a lot since the 70's and 80's with the advent of television, especially cable television and ratings. WWE and TNA try to attract TV ratings with World Champions that are monster heels like Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley who decimate all their opponents and seem unstoppable.

A.J. Styles is a throwback to the old school days of wrestling and as a fan I'm glad for it. He was a multi-time champion in TNA and has the credibility of having great matches with everybody. As the saying goes, he could work with a broom and have a great match.

Thank you A.J. STYLES. You truly are the best in the business.
