What's Old is new again

Good Morning Class, It's Professor Scorpio.

Today our Aim is: To look at classic TV shows and movies and see how they're being brought back in Hollywood.

Wonder Woman on NBC

Wonder Woman will return to TV in 2012 as a TV show on NBC. This gives the new merger of NBC and Comcast a big feather to brag about. Wonder Woman is one of those classic characters from DC that everybody knows and has never had a movie made for her like Batman or Superman. With David E. Kelley writing and producing, this could be good. On the other hand it could turn out like the failed Bionic Woman relaunch. The real interesting thing is that Marvel is launching the Incredible Hulk on ABC IN 2012. So which hero will survive? And who can fill Linda Carter's shoes?

Charlie's Angels on ABC

Charlie's Angels is returning to the air in 2012 with a fresh cast and Robert Wagner playing Charlie. While Robert Wagner can definitely fill the shoes of the late John Forsythe, I wonder if this will work. Back in the 70's three women leading a major TV show was something new. Today women have a much more visible role in Hollywood. Also they're changing the location from LA to Miami cough copying Burn Notice cough.
I expect the sex factor to be turned up in order to attract male viewers.

THE MUNSTERS ON ABC

The MUNSTERS may come back to TV with a darker tone. With horror movies being enVogue now, this could be a great move. I personally love the old 50's and even the early 90's Munsters adaptations. I hope this new adaptation remembers that the great thing about the Munsters is that they believe they're totally normal just like everyone else. With a darker tone this could leave people who love the old comedy disillusioned. I await to see the final result.

THUNDERCATS ON CARTOON NETWORK

Yes Thundercats are on the loose again. Feel the magic, Hear the roar! This time it will have a new look with a different mythology http://splashpage.mtv.com/2011/01/27/thundercats-tv-series-image-interview/. I'm not thrilled with all of the changes especially the anime look but I'll reserve judgement until the series debuts in 2012.

Well class it seems the more things change the more Hollywood recycles old concepts.

Class Dismissed.
