SPIDER-MAN IS COMING TO THE MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE
Look Out! Here comes the Spider-Man! US WEEKLY reports that Sony and Marvel have announced a deal that will allow both companies to use the web-slinger in upcoming movies.
According to the article in a statement released by Marvel, "the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe," and "Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago."
It will be interesting to see how Marvel decides to introduce the character in their universe. Sony has already done a Spider-Man franchise in the early 2000's with Tobey Maguire and they re-booted the franchise with Andrew Garfield in "The Amazing Spider-Man". Garfield is reportedly out as Spider-Man and the role will be recast. Since Sony is going to release a Spider-Man film in July 2017, I would assume Marvel's film will serve as a new introduction to the character.
This is a monumental move for Marvel. With the success of "The Avengers" franchise, and the possibility of adding Spider-Man to that line up could be bigger than Superman Vs. Batman. Spider-Man is the most iconic character Marvel has so this announcement will have huge implications going forward for all of the Marvel movies.
