MY 3 FAVORITE NWA CHAMPIONS

A couple of weeks ago I listed my three favorite Intercontinental champions. Now I will list my three favorite NWA Champions:

1. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair

The "Nature Boy" has been a World Champion 16 times. Seven Times he was the NWA champion before Jim Crockett Promotions was bought by Ted Turner and became WCW. He had classic feuds with Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat, Terry Funk, Lex Luger and Sting during the 1980's which cemented his legacy as arguably the greatest champion in the history of wrestling.

2. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat

In February 1989, Ricky Steamboat beat Ric Flair for the NWA Championship. This was two years after his amazing  performance at Wrestlemania 3 where he beat "Macho Man" Randy Savage for the Intercontinental title and became a superstar. Ricky and Ric Flair would have a heated feud over the title resulting in 3 tremendous televised matches for WCW. With his heart and determination, Ricky Steamboat was a great champion no matter what title he held. In May of 1989, Steamboat lost the title to Flair but their impact on the sport is still felt today.

3. STING

Sting beat Ric Flair for the NWA World title in July 1990 at the Great American Bash. Since then he is a multi-time World champion defeating opponents such as Vader, Sid Vicious, Lex Luger, Ric Flair, and Hulk Hogan. His first world title reign cemented Sting as the Franchise player in WCW and as a major star in the wrestling industry.

With WWE and TNA switching champions like we change socks, it's nice to look at 3 wrestlers that made the World title mean something in an era when wrestling was fun and exciting.
